Helena hunting pucked love6/10/2023 ![]() ![]() I also loved the overall message of family (blood related or not) and how it played such a huge role in the book. I think Darren may be my favorite Pucked hero and honestly, you can't beat the cover of this book/audio ) It's always fun catching up with the entire Pucked gang and their cameos (big and small) were a wonderful addition. I don't want to reveal too much, but learning the history and baggage that both Darren and Charlene carry explained so much about their personalities and relationship. I loved the versatility of the narrators to switch from significant and meaningful to lighthearted and hilarious. All of Helena Hunting's trademark wit and laugh out loud moments are there, but there are tender and serious moments in Pucked Love as well. ![]() ![]() It would be best enjoyed and appreciated however, if you have read the previous books. Though this is book 7 in the series, it can be read/listened to as a standalone. ![]() York gave Darren the perfect amount of alpha protectiveness and vulnerability, while Bloom was charming and playful as Charlene. This final book in the series did not disappoint and Sebastian York and Stella Bloom did an amazing job bringing these characters to life. Where the others are often loud and lack a personal filter, Darren and Charlene have always been tight lipped and secretive. From the start of this series, I have always been intrigued by Darren and Charlene's mysterious relationship. ![]()

Book review the apollo murders6/10/2023 ![]() ![]() Mei brings Wallace to Charon’s Crossing, a cozy little tea shop in the countryside run by Hugo, a kind-hearted man who ferries ghosts from this life to the next. After Mei, a young woman who claims to be a reaper, shows up at the funeral to take Wallace to the afterlife, he is forced to confront his death – and life – in ways he never imagined. Having alienated his ex-wife and coworkers with his greed and general unkindness, the funeral is hardly the touching memorial Wallace feels it should be. When Wallace Price, an uptight and callous lawyer, dies suddenly of a heart attack on his office floor, no one is all too upset (except Wallace, of course). Under the Whispering Door delivered on all four – so much so, that I almost forgot that I was reading a story about death. ![]() I start each TJ Klune book with a few expectations in mind: queer characters, Klune’s trademark sense of humor, the found family trope, and a warm, fuzzy feeling inside by the time I’ve turned the last page. ![]()

Camus albert the stranger6/10/2023 ![]() ![]() " With this truth, all of his writings sound revolt, for he refused to be deceived by social, religious, or individual submissions that ignored or defied the irreducible truth that humanity alone is responsible for itself, its meaning, and its measure. This concept is Camus' equivalent of "In the beginning. He was early aware of the absurd condition of humanity's being totally alone in a resplendent universe. The sensual free pleasure of swimming and hiking was in continuous contrast to the bare stony earth that made living a matter of poverty and destitution. The universe, it seems from his early notebook ( Noces), was mother, father, and lover for the young Camus, and from the first, Camus was aware of the paradoxical aspects of his natural world. They are a part of his lyricism, his symbolism, and his values. These roots - the sun and the sea - have spread into all of Camus' writings - the novels, the plays, and the essays. Albert Camus was born November 7, 1913, and reared in Algeria, a country exposed to the blistering African sun and the plain by the Mediterranean sea. ![]()

Eric clapton guitarist6/9/2023 ![]() ![]() I told him that once he got over, he’d show Clapton how it was done, which of course he did.” A night to remember Chandler later recalled, “When we first met in New York, Jimi knew all about the guitarists in Britain and asked if he’d get to meet Eric Clapton. “You never told me he was that fucking good,” Clapton is reported as saying. “Hendrix blew into Howlin’ Wolf’s Killing Floor at breakneck speed, just like that - stopped you in your tracks.”Ĭhas Chandler went backstage to find Clapton puffing nervously on a cigarette. The effect on Clapton was undoubtedly cataclysmic, shattering any preconceptions about blues guitar - and his confidence. He played Killing Floor, a Howlin’ Wolf number I’d always wanted to play but which I’d never had the complete technique to do.” He stood in front of the mirror combing his hair and asked if he could jam. “He was very, very flash - even in the dressing room. Played Killing Floor, a number I always wanted to play but which I never had the complete technique to do Eric ClaptonĬlapton couldn’t have anticipated what was about to unfold. ![]()

20 thousand leagues under the sea6/8/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() One can’t help but wonder what his origin story is and how he came to have the resources necessary to build the Nautilus. From his introduction, to the revelation of his psychosis and his desire for revenge, I was captivated. He knew that if he could divide the three captives that he’d have a better chance of keeping them under his control and ensuring that he could continue on his quest for revenge.ĭespite learning details about the Captain throughout the book, his character remains a mystery. After having finished the novel, it’s clear that Nemo hoped the Professor would do just this. He sets Ned Land’s worries to the side and explores the ship. Rather than fight against his capture, Professor Aronnax is enthralled by everything he sees. For the narrator especially, Captain Nemo and his Nautilus, along with his vast collection of scientific achievements, are overwhelming. Although his name is often cited as one of the most famous of Jules Verne’s literary creations, without reading about his adventures personally, one cannot appreciate his depth of character and understand his struggle to both find both peace and achieve revenge.Īs the novel begins, Captain Nemo is introduced as a charming, intelligent, and dangerous captor who is holding the three main characters against their will. For this reader, Captain Nemo’s character was the best part of Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. ![]()
